Best Buy handing out free Invisible Shield for iPhone 4

Best Buy provides free invisibleSHIELD for iPhone 4 owners:

“Ah, so we’ve finally received the full skinny from another tipster. The offer only applies to those who purchased their iPhone 4 from Best Buy / Best Buy Mobile or for Best Buy Reward Zone members. Granted, it’s pretty easy to sign up for the aforementioned reward program, but those are the stipulations. The official BB name for the product you’ll be getting is the Zagg SideShield, which would cost you $9.99 otherwise.” Engadget

Skype multitasking for iOS 4 now available

One month after presenting at the WWDC 2010 Skype now releases the eagerly awaited multi-tasking app for iOS 4. This is what is added to version 2.1 –

“Run Skype in the background with multitasking in iOS4. Receive Skype calls and IM while other apps are running or when your iPhone is locked. You can also continue your call while you switch to another application. Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.”

Unfortunately this update does not include support for video calling. An option currently blocked by Skype, that was previously available in Fring (see here and here). Still wondering what Skype is waiting for…

Free bumpers – issue blown out of proportion

This morning Steve Jobs faced the media to talk about the hyped reception issues of the iPhone 4. He showed us some clear numbers to think about:

  • 0.55% of new iPhone 4 owners complained at AppleCare about reception issues
  • 1.7% of iPhones 4’s have been returned to AT&T (compared to 6% for iPhone 3 GS)
  • Other smart-phones like the Blackberry Bold, HTC Droid and Samsung Omnia show the exact same behavior when held tightly, dropping between 3~4 bars.

To make sure all iPhone 4 owners stay happy with their Apple product Jobs announced that they will provide a free case for every iPhone 4 through September 30 or you will receive a refund if you already bought one. They will set up their website to process all requests late next week.

If you are still unhappy with your purchase Apple has waived the restocking fees that usually accompany returning your product to AT&T.

Friday press conference iPhone 4

The media have been all over reports of reception issues with the new iPhone 4, this week Consumer Reports determined they had to give the iPhone 4 a negative recommendation due to these issues. A slap in the face of Apple, who are finally willing to talk about the issue this friday when they will hold a press conference.

So stay tuned for more updates on this issue; will Apple hand out free bumpers, are they going to take a big (expensive) step to issue a recall or will they continue to do nothing and face the class action suit.

Got boatloads of cash? Buy unlocked iPhone 4

I suffered a slight jaw drop after spotting the ad below on one of yahoo’s pages. Citizens of the world (aka Malaysia and Kazakhstan) are willing to dish out big bucks for the latest iPhone product. Quit possibly the most expensive cell phone ever to be sold, if we are willing to overlook the 1.3 million dollar GoldVish Le Million.

Paying these prices is somewhat understandable for people living in aforementioned countries where Apple has not yet set foot ashore, but what about Europe? Somehow people are in such dire need of the newest Apple product that they are willing to pay $1600 to get it before the official release date estimated to be July 23rd, a mere 11 days from today.

So to all you iPhone 4 owners, maybe it is time to insure your little crown jewel, cause if you were able to snug a little bumper around it and downloaded a good number of payed apps, the total price of your device might well top a whopping $2000. A pretty little number to keep in mind next time you leave your iPhone on the roof of your car.

Oh btw, anyone looking to sell an iPhone 4 for $1400? Feel free to contact BUMI ARMADA NAVIGATION (Company No. 33546-P) Block C, A 11,Lot 1211 , Manmohan’s Warehouse , Jalan Patau-Patau, 87012 Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan, Malaysia. They gladly left their contact information on yahoo’s website in hope of extra fast delivery.
